A. degree in history and political science from Northern Illinois University, master’s degrees in both history and political science from the University of Illinois at Springfield, and a Ph. D. in history from Southern Illinois University. A fifth generation resident of Illinois, he currently resides in Springfield, Illinois. Biography: Joens is the director of the Illinois State Archives and is the author of several articles and three books on Illinois government and history. He is also a U. S. Army veteran and a former newspaper reporter.
