Essential for EVERY library—home and public
This is the latest in this series of books with CDs produced by Joe Garner for Sourcebooks. For the last 10 years updated versions were published, as enough news events occurred to warrant a new edition. We are now up to THREE CDs of material, carrying us to 2007 with the horrific massacre at Virginia Tech University. While most of the events captured here—starting in 1937 with the explosion and crash of the Hindenburg—are tragedies, there are a few glimmers of hope, usually involving the space program in the 1960s and 1970s.

In fact, the only other upbeat story included is the end of World War II (and the fact that there even was a war is not very upbeat.). But as philosopher George Santayana said (and has often been repeated with minor changes: "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.". And that is reason enough to get this book, play the CDs, look at the photos and, if you have children, share the experience with them.

The first 2 CDs are the same as prior editions yet it is still worth getting this edition—if you already own the earlier ones, [then] for the third disc. (Then give your older copy to a friend or, better yet, donate to your local library.)

Stay Tuned: Television's Unforgettable Moments
ISBN: 0740740148

Andrews McMeel Publishing. 2003

For over 50 years, we have watched as television has entertained, informed, comforted, and thrilled us. We watched as sitcoms evolved from I Love Lucy to All in the Family: at first merely amusing, then becoming reflections of society and pushing the cultural boundaries. We watched President Kennedy, the first-born of television and politics, unite us in the optimism of his "new frontier" and in the grief of his assassination. Television has taken us to the scene of mass celebrations, such as the wedding of Lady Diana to Prince Charles, to calamities in Munich and New York, and into frightening fields of battle in Vietnam and Iraq. Television exposed the imperfections of the jurors' box in the trial of O.J. Simpson and the ballot box in Election 2000. Television put us in the front row when Hank broke Babe's record, when the U.S. hockey team beat the Soviets in Lake Placid, and when the NFL spilled over from Sunday afternoons to Monday nights. Over 50 years of memories-the stars, the programs, and the events stored in our hearts and imaginations like treasured heirlooms-are found in this new hardcover multimedia book from veteran New York Times best-selling author Joe Garner. In Stay Tuned, he has gathered 36 landmark moments from news, sports, and entertainment in a riveting anthology. Each story comes to life through detailed, behind-the-scenes accounts and firsthand anecdotes, and is illustrated with hundreds of poignant black-and-white and color photographs. The book's accompanying CDs and DVD feature the corresponding clips, narrated by Walter Cronkite for news, Bob Costas for sports, and (TK) for entertainment.TV's Unforgettable Moments is certain to become an important and lasting chronicle of the medium-and a best-seller in the process.

Jeff Gordon: His Dream, Drive & Destiny
ISBN: 1603803963

Jeff Gordon Inc.. 2016

Jeff Gordon: His Dream, Drive & Destiny is a New York Times best seller!

“People are going to be able to read about me like they’ve never read about me before.”

says Jeff Gordon.

“We reveal some things that are definitely a little controversial, whether it be my divorce or talking about my parents’ separation, as well as the relationship between Jimmie Johnson and I. Although I’m a huge supporter of his and friend of his, how that has been challenged over time, as well as the separation with Ray Evernham when he left the team. It hasn’t always been great, perfect and happy times. It was tough to tell myself that if I’m going to write a book, I want it to be done in a way that shows who I truly am and the things I went through and not hold back. I think Joe Garner did an excellent job of pulling that out of me, although it was hard at times.”

The first-ever authorized biography of Jeff Gordon, the four-time champion racing legend. For over a year, Garner interviewed and observed Gordon at races, special events, and at home. The book is based on extensive interviews with Gordon – as well as in-depth interviews with dozens of family members, friends, competitors, and colleagues, some of whom have never gone on the record before. Jeff speaks candidly, sometimes brutally so, about his childhood, his much publicized divorce, those he competed against, his family, and life after racing. This fully illustrated hardcover biography will allow privileged access to a wealth of exclusive unseen and rare material from Gordon’s personal photo and memorabilia collection. Gordon’s meteoric rise through racing’s ranks is a classic American success story. Readers will find inspiration in Gordon’s candid take on his pivotal life episodes.
