Connection to Illinois: Born in Oak Park, Dr. Baer attended grammar school in the suburbs of Chicago and received his medical degree from the University of Illinois. He also received a master's degree in creative writing at Northwestern University.

Biography: Dr. Richard Baer is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, and a member of numerous state and national medical societies. He served as President of the Illinois Psychiatric Society, Editor of its newsletter, and Chairman of its Ethics Committee. Dr. Baer was in private psychiatric practice for fourteen years and has treated a wide variety of general psychiatric and addictive disorders, and treated Karen Overhill (Switching Time) using psychoanalytically-informed psychotherapy with hypnosis.
