Cinda Klickna

Born: 1951 in Peoria, Illinois
Connection to Illinois: Klickna was born in Peoria and lived in Morton on the family farm where her father was born and is still farmed by her cousin. When she was in 7th grade, her family moved to Springfield where she graduated from Springfield High School. She earned a BA in English Education from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana and a Masters in Literature from the University of Illinois-Springfield. Klickna currently resides in Rochester.

Biography: Cinda Klickna taught middle and high school English in Springfield, Illinois for 25 years. She also served 18 years outside of the classroom in various leadership roles with the teachers union: President of the Springfield Education Association, Secretary-Treasurer of the Illinois Education Association and as President of the Illinois Education Association. This involved traveling the state visiting schools and talking with teachers and support staff. Her role on the National Education Association Board of Directors took her to Washington D.C. many times as well as to cities across the country for association business. She also had the opportunity to travel to Finland for an education study of the Finland school system. A freelance writer for 30 years, Klickna has written book reviews, historical articles about Illinois, and profiles of people. Much of her work has been in the Illinois Times, Springfield Business Journal, State Journal Register, and the Springfield Scene Magazine.
