Connection to Illinois: Gunn moved to Elgin in 2015.

Biography: Chasity Gunn is the inaugural Poet Laureate for the City of Elgin (2019-2020) in Illinois. She is a graduate of Hamline University's MFA program where she studied poetry. Her work has been published in the BitterZoet and Rock, Paper, Scissors. She was a featured artist in the Bedlam Theatre's 10X10 Fest. Gunn frequently participates in readings and workshops across the country. She works for the nonprofit Youth Empowerment Program in Chicago and is an adjunct instructor in English and adult education at Judson University. Before becoming an instructor, Gunn worked as a newspaper reporter covering school systems.
