Biographical and Professional Information

Born Saturnino Orestes Armas Miñoso Arrieta, Minoso was nicknamed "The Cuban Comet" as well as "Mr. White Sox". He played for the Chicago White Sox in 1951-1957, 1960-61, 1964, 1976, 1980. On May 1, 1951, in a game against the New York Yankees in Comiskey Park, the speedy Miñoso became the first black player to wear a White Sox uniform.Minoso was a seven-time American League All-Star and a three-time Gold Glove outfielder. He was elected to the Chicago Sports Hall of Fame in 1984 and the World Baseball Hall of Fame in 1990.
