Frederic W. Goudy

Died: 1947 Pen Name: None Connection to Illinois: Goudy was born and raised in Illinois. He lived in several different Illinois cities, including Chicago. Biography: Frederic Goudy was America's third most prolific type designer (behind Morris Fuller Benton and R. Hunter Middleton), with ninety faces actually cut and cast, and many more designs completed. His most famous were Copperplate Gothic and Goudy Old Style. In 1903 he founded the 'Village Press', in Park Ridge, Illinois.
