Connection to Illinois: Berlage grew up on a farm near Elizabeth. She began her career in public history as a docent at the Ulysses S. Grant Home in Galena during her high school and college summers. She earned her Bachelor's degree from the University of Chicago.

Biography: Nancy K. Berlage is assistant professor in the Department of History and the Public History Program at Texas State University. She earned her Master's and PhD degrees from the Johns Hopkins University.
