Morris Birkbeck

Died: 1825 Pen Name: Jonathan Freeman Connection to Illinois: Birkbeck lived in the south of Edwards County in the Illinois territory. He founded Wanborough, just two miles west of what is now known as Albion. He also briefly served as the Secretary of State of Illinois. Biography: Morris Birkbeck was an English agricultural innovator, author/publicist, anti-slavery campaigner and early 19th-century pioneer.
