Ernest Edward East

Died: Springfield, Illinois October 1, 1960 Pen Name: Ernest E East Connection to Illinois: East was born in Milmine in Piatt County. He also lived in Peoria and Springfield. Biography: Ernest E. East was a former Peoria newspaperman. He was the founder and a past president of the Peoria Historical Society. He was also president of the Illinois State Historical Society and assistant State Archivist.

The population was a floating one and the inhabitants were forced to remove, once for two years on account of Indian depredations. Mostly illiterate, the French of Peoria were a care-free people, able to adjust themselves quickly to changes of political fortune. Lives of many were filled with adventure and romance. |
