
Michael Anania
Born: 1939 in Omaha, Nebraska
Pen Name: None Connection to Illinois: Anania lived in Chicago. He taught for three years at Northwestern University before taking a position at the University of Illinois Chicago campus. Biography: Michael Anania is an editor, an award winning novelist and poet and lecturer and essayist on Illinois' literary traditions, including 'The Chicago Novel.' He attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and later graduated from the Municipal University of Omaha (now the Omaha campus of the University of Nebraska).A retired Professor of English at the University of Illinois — Chicago and a former poetry editor of ''Swallow Press,'' he is director of Council of Literary Magazines and Presses and a member of the NEA literature panel. He is a contributing editor for ''Tri-Quarterly'' and his work has been included in the ''Norton Anthology of Modern Poetry''. Anania was Chair of the Read Illinois Advisory Committee and was later, President of the Illinois Center for the Book. He now resides in Austin, Texas.
