Died: December 12, 2023 Pen Name: Johari Amini, Dr. Johari M. Amini-Hudson Connection to Illinois: Latimore lived in Chicago. Biography: Jewel C Latimore, AKA Johari Amini was a founder of Third World Press that was established in 1967 and the Institute of Positive Education that was established in 1969. A gifted poet and contributor to the Black Arts Movement, especially in Chicago, Johari was also an important figure in the Organization of Black American Culture, serving as founder, its publication NOMMO, the Kuumba Theater, and the Gwendolyn Brooks Writers' Workshop, and editor of Black Books Bulletin. Dr. Johari M. Amini-Hudson also went on to become a chiropractor. Her book, A Commonsense Approach to Eating: The Need to Become a Vegetarian served as a crossover of her two worlds.
