Barbara Brueggemann

Born:
Connection to Illinois: Brueggemann lives in Freeburg.

Biography: Barbara’s inspiration for Daisy came from her daily walks in Freeburg Park. One day, she encountered a duck that appeared out of place and in need of help. “She showed up three days in a row and I just felt something was up with this duck,” Barbara recalled. Over time, she developed a bond with the duck, feeding her and earning her trust. This connection deepened when Barbara discovered the duck tangled in fishing line, which prevented her from walking properly. Despite numerous calls to various agencies, it was the local fire department that ultimately came to the rescue. Using kayaks, they managed to free the duck from the fishing line. Barbara’s heartfelt story, filled with moments of courage and compassion, forms the backbone of Daisy.
