Biography: A horticulturist, author, and co-founder of the American Horticultural Society, R. Milton Carleton was known for his development of gardening chemicals and his numerous writings on gardening. During his fifty-five-year career in agronomy and horticulture, he contributed more than one thousand articles to periodicals, served as garden editor of Chicago Today, and as garden and science editor of Better Homes and Gardens. Carleton was also the founder of Chicago's Municipal Rose Garden.
