Biography: Orvis attended the University of Saint Francis in Joliet, Illinois, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a minor in English. As a school teacher in language arts/literature within a local school district, she devotes her time to writing music and poetry in addition to her short stories and novels.Her book ''Spud'' is about a fictional character based on the real-life Danny Hogg, a close family friend whose untimely accidental drowning had a profound impact on Orvis’ family and friends. The event served as an inspiration for the book and served as a tribute to Danny, where fictional characters, Jack and Spud Cooper are trying to keep cool in the Chicago heat wave of 1995. The events of one fateful day set in motion discoveries of life, love, support and coming of age.
