Pen Name: None Connection to Illinois: Maria was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois attending the University of Illinois at Chicago for her graduate and undergraduate degrees. As a child, she grew-up attending Catholic schools located in the Northwest side of Chicago. Although well-travelled, Illinois has been and will always be called HOME. She currently reside in Park Ridge, Illinois. ''My Mamma Told Me . . . Now, I'm Telling You!'' is an inspirational book demonstrating how a woman with no formal education possessed the wisdom of a scholar despite being born and raised in a small, town called Castel San Vincenzo in Italy and moving, at the age of twenty-nine, to the windy city, Chicago, Illinois. The emphasis of the book is the importance of keeping our ancestors’ wisdom alive despite barriers of language, passing of elders, and the decrease of storytelling. Mamma taught and encouraged others through Italian proverbs that transcend cultures and generations. Life lessons learned hundreds of years ago are still applicable today! Biography: Maria received an MBA from the University of Illinois at Chicago in Marketing and International Business and completed the International Studies Program conducted in France and Belgium, ESC Le Harve-Caen Graduate Program. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree received in Economics and Psychology. She worked in the Chicago land area for large and small companies in a variety of industries including manufacturing, healthcare, pharmaceutical, consumer, advertising, market research and consulting. Currently, she is pursuing her dream of being an accomplished author and motivational speaker. As a first generation American born and raised in Chicago speaking English and Italian she was influenced by the city’s vast Italian-American community and sub-culture. Growing up, while attending Catholic schools, she was enrolled in Italian studies, participated in Italian holidays and events, and had many American-Italian friends. She met my husband in Chicago who coincidently has origins from the same, small town—Castel San Vincenzo, Italy. She and her husband have a son who continues the tradition of taking Italian classes in Illinois. We are active in the Chicago, Italian social groups along with many family and friends. This is her first inspirational book. She hopes to encourage others to tell stories and pass their ancestor’s wisdom to the next generation.
