Connection to Illinois: McElfresh was born in Urbana and grew up there. She later lived in Decatur.

Biography: Lynn McElfresh is a writer and lifetime member of the Girl Scouts. When she was in high school, she helped with a troop of Girl Scouts that had fourteen deaf girls and two girls who were deaf and blind. She has written two books and is also the ghost writer for several other children’s books.In 2009 she became a regular contributor to ''Thousand Islands Life'', a monthly journal of articles about the about the St. Lawrence River and Great Lake Ontario region. McElfresh spends her summers in the Thousands Islands on Grenell Island and winters in Dunedin, Florida.
