Dora Aydelotte

Died: 1968 in Oklahoma Pen Name: None Connection to Illinois: Dora was born in Altamont and spent most of her early life in Moweaqua. She attended The Art Institute of Chicago. Biography: Dora Aydelotte was educated at The Art Institute of Chicago from 1896-1897. From 1902 - 1904, she attended the Woman’s College in Richmond, Virginia. Later in her life, she moved to Oklahoma and became a novelist in 1931. She wrote historical novels in the 1930s and 1940s. Much of her material was inspired by the pioneers in Moweaqua, Illinois, and Oklahoma. She was an honorary member of the National League of American Pen Women, and conducted writing classes in Oklahoma City.
